You’ve decided to offer health insurance to your small business’s employees – congrats! Ready to move forward with one of Oscar’s group coverage plans (opens in new tab), but wondering what happens next?
This article will walk you through our simple onboarding process. Here’s what to expect:
Submitting your application
When you requested a health insurance quote (opens in new tab) on the Oscar website, a personalized Enrollment Guide followed up with you to talk about your company’s needs, and recommend the best plans to fit your budget. Once you’ve decided on a plan, that same guide will help you through the application process.
Starting the application. Your Enrollment Guide will need your business address, Federal Tax ID, and a roster of the employees who will be participating in the plan. You’ll also be asked to select the date for your small group insurance to begin: coverage can start on the 1st or 15th of any month.
It’s time to introduce Oscar to your team! With the coverage start date squared away, your Enrollment Guide will walk your employees through Oscar’s plans and perks, and help them choose the best option.
Submitting employee applications. Once your employees have elected their plans, they’ll each need to fill out their application. We’ve simplified this step with an easy digital form.
Time for the finishing touches. Now comes the regulatory stuff. Your guide will help you submit your company’s banking info, tax documents and payroll in your application. All that’s left is to hit submit!
Now you’ll receive your first bill and instructions on how to pay it. The first bill will be available online immediately once you’re approved. You’ll also receive a business welcome kit in the mail in a week or two, with info on how to get you and your team all set up with Oscar.
Make sure to pay your first bill by your coverage start date, or your coverage won’t be active. If you’re making electronic payments using ACH, this payment will happen automatically.
One or two weeks after your first payment, employees will receive member welcome kits in the mail. This will include their physical member ID cards, helpful information about their plan, and some fun goodies.
Remember: Your coverage won’t be active if you first bill isn’t paid, even if your coverage start date has passed.
Onboarding steps for your team
Once your employees have enrolled in the group plan, there are a few onboarding actions they will need to take to ensure their coverage is set up correctly.
Create an account (opens in new tab). Employee members will then receive an enrollment confirmation email along with instructions on how to set up an online account.
Log on. Once their account is created, employees can access their digital ID cards, view all their plan details and take advantage of the perks Oscar provides, such as Doctor on Call (opens in new tab).
Fill out the health survey. This questionnaire helps our team tailor each employee’s care, and will help them get the most out of their plan.
Say hi to the Concierge team (opens in new tab)! A team of guides and a licensed nurse are there to help employees navigate the tricky healthcare world. They can assist with health questions, confusing bills or managing chronic conditions.
Sync your steps with the Oscar app and earn money just for walking. We’ll pay each member a $1 toward an Amazon Gift Card every day they meet their step goals. Just tap the the steps icon in the Oscar app to get started.
Keep an eye out for mail. In addition to the welcome kit, each member will also receive a mailer with information on in-network (opens in new tab) doctors and facilities and a personalized fridge magnet, so they know where to go they need care.
This may sound like a lot, but don’t worry. We’ll send your employees emails throughout each step of the onboarding process, showing them how to find the best care for their needs, use the step tracker, and even reminding them to book their annual physical.
