Schedule of Benefits (SOB)

A Schedule of Benefits (SOB – but not that SOB) is a document that outlines the fees associated with each type of health care service covered by your plan. This includes:

• Your deductible (opens in new tab) and out-of-pocket max (opens in new tab) amounts.
• Free preventive (opens in new tab) services.
• Copays (opens in new tab) and coinsurance (opens in new tab) for drugs, office visits, procedures, urgent care and emergency services, imaging, labs, equipment, supplies, and other common types of medical services.

Many health insurers will send a hard copy of your Schedule of Benefits when you first enroll in a plan. Some also provide access to an electronic copy in your member portal.

The SOB is a handy reference guide to have any time you want to get an idea of your medical costs up front, so hang onto it!
