Frequently asked questions

    • Pick one of the various metal tiers (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum)All individual plans have a metal tier in their name, and if you pick your tier in advance you can narrow down the options right away. The best plan for you is the one that limits your costs and manages your risk. The right balance is totally up to you. If you prefer to pay more up front and have fewer surprises, you could explore Gold or Platinum. If you’re looking for the least expensive premium and understand the risks of potentially having to pay some medical bills during the year, you might opt for Bronze or Silver. If you qualify for a cost-sharing reduction (meaning you are within 250% of the Federal Poverty Level), you might see a super-low deductible in the Silver tier, so watch out for that.Make sure you have access to any doctors & drugs you needMost plans only cover your care if you go to a doctor or hospital in their network. Look up any of your existing doctors and browse the insurer’s website to find out which hospital systems they work with. Understand the tradeoffs with bigger networks; they might have more providers and hospitals in-network, but they often cost more. Start with doctors you know you’ll need access to and see what networks they are available in; you can often take great care without paying more for broader network coverage. Look up any medications you take to make sure they’re covered. You can search the doctors, hospitals, and drugs covered by Oscar plans here.Look for plans with perksIf the plans are similar, the prices are just a few dollars' difference, and the networks cover what you need, look for extra perks like fitness rewards and free telemedicine (Oscar plans have both). Give the insurance company a call to see what their customer service is like. Extra benefits like these can make a big difference in your experience during the year—and if you're paying for coverage, you deserve a good experience!Get a free personalized quote or give us a call and talk to a licensed enrollment guide at (855) 672-2788.
    • Depending on how much you make, you might qualify for financial assistance in the form of tax credits immediately applied to your premiums to make your coverage more affordable. If you qualify, you can apply your tax credits to any plan in the marketplace. To qualify for tax credits, you have to report the income you expect to earn as a household (that means your spouse’s paycheck, your kids' jobs, etc.).If you’re married, you have to file your taxes jointly to qualify for assistance. If you’re married but filing separately, you won’t be able to claim tax credits. To claim your credits, you have to enroll through the marketplace.
